PULMONARY REHABILITATION

Pulmonary rehabilitation treats ailments of the cardiopulmonary system. Many lung diseases can be improved with Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

Conditions that benefit from treatment with Pulmonary Rehabilitation:

  • Shortness of Breath
  • Obstructive lung diseases such as COPD, Emphysema, Chronic Asthma, and Chronic Bronchitis
  • Pulmonary Fibrosis, Bronchiectasis, Cystic Fibrosis, Interstitial Lung Disease, Sarcodosis
  • Pulmonary Hypertension
  • Lung Cancer
  • Pre- & Post-surgery for Lung Reduction and Lung Transplant Surgery
  • Pulmonary Rehabilitation is comprised of a combination of therapies designed to increase lung function/capacity, strengthen the upper and lower extremities, and improve quality of life by addressing difficulties in Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). The comprehensive nature of our program will help you breathe better, increase your independence and improve overall quality of life. Education is a large part of the program as well, as we prepare you to take the tools and exercises you learn into "real life."

Patients referred for Pulmonary Rehabilitation will learn to:

  • Reduce and control breathing difficulties
  • Understand the medical condition affecting their lungs, treatment options, and coping strategies
  • Manage the medical condition and reduce dependence on health professionals and costly medical interventions
  • Maintain healthy behaviors such as smoking cessation, good nutrition, stress management, and exercise
  • Conserve energy with pacing and planning

PHYSICAL THERAPY

Physical therapy aims to restore the body’s range of motion and manage pain by using non-invasive techniques like stretching, heat treatment, and exercise. It is ideal for patients recovering from injury or surgery, and helps strengthen muscles in pulmonary patients to decrease shortness of breath - strong muscles use less oxygen!

Our Physical therapists specialize in:

  • Rehabilitation Services for Pulmonary Patients
  • Upper and Lower Extremity Strength and Endurance Training
  • Improving functional endurance
  • Balance & Gait Training
  • Pre- and Post-Surgical Rehabilitation
  • Home Exercise Programs
